SHE ROCK’d it!

28 05 2007

So we FINALLY did an OFFICIAL She Rox gig! Did we ever decide how we’d spell it?? Is it SHE ROX or SHE ROCKS??? Maybe Tiks or Mai can help me answer that. But it was a BLAST! Mailani, Tiki and I performed along with our other female halves of our own bands… Lei Melket (Keahiwai), Noli Kazama (Milo Shade) and Zaysha Labrador (Kanalo / Simple Souls). It was for the keiki (children) and initially Mailani was listed as performing as “Mailani and Friends.” HAHAHA… Our booking agent told us that she saw an email that listed her and Mai didn’t confirm it [So is the life of a giving musician, yeah Mai??] Long story short… Mailani got all the girls to say ‘YES’ and made it happen!  She RoX actually got together and did a gig!
From the Kapiolani Bandstand, it was hard to feel the music around me. The area was open and I was playing drums a ways away from the others, so I couldn’t vibe too well with them. Lei, who played bass most of the gig, also had a hard time vibing. I DID however, record the gig, and was stoked that the performance sounded better than what I thought it would sound like. I’m glad Precision Sound did the sounds for us, cause the crew was on top of everything and tried to fix the technical difficulties as fast as they could. THANKS GUYS!

It felt great being able to represent the ladies and show that we can do our thing too. People actually came up to ask us if we had a cd out. We told them that they MANY cds to choose from, since our groups collectively released about 8 cds. Zaysha also told a few people that MIGHTY J’s cd is coming out. THANKS Z!

It’s gig like that, when we’re all playing as hard as we can and laughing about the mistakes we make throughout the performance, that makes me KNOW that I’m SUPPOSED to be doing this… Playing Music… Entertaining People… Making Memories… Being a Role Model for young ones that aspire to be a musician. I love this job.

Dillon Ching

21 05 2007

This post is dedicated to Dillon Ching who was fatally shot last night in his hometown, on his own property, trying to break up a fight that took place Saturday evening.

Although I do not know him personally, I wanted to take this time for us all to pray for his family, wife Desiree and 2 year old son Isaiah that he leaves behind along with his extended family.

What is it with the guns in Hawai’i? This is the second murder by someone being fatally shot point blank in one week! What’s the freaking deal people? I know we’re all stressed, I know we are all caught in a bind, and struggling financially and within our own selves, but what is the deal? Have we become a people with no pride? A people that has weakend into this kind of filth? Have we allowed others to choose this way of life without carelessness, without honor? I am sure what ensued was men testosteroning out from alcohol or what have you, and I’m sure during the hours of the aumoe, men are more macho with that mixture, but Lord help! Why could they have not come to a different conclusion like take your frustrations out daily at the gym, in the ocean, or working hard daily? This is why exercise is sooooo important. One of the reasons anyhow, but you need to empty out the poison we comsume from the stresses of daily life somehow! And, it should not be amongst ourselves we empty and unleash the beast within. WE ARE IN CONTROL. WE CANNOT ALLOW THAT PART OF US TO CONTROL US.

And then, what will our future look like? When an altercation arises, what then do we do? Mind our own business in fear of ourselves and the livelihood of our own family? Hawai’i nei has NO ROOM FOR PEOPLE LIKE THIS. YOU WANNA FIGHT AND ACT MACHO, CARRY GUNS, CARRY BATS AND BEAT PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL ON THE GROUND? GO FIGHT IN THIS GOOD FOR NOTHING WAR WITH THOSE GOOD FOR NOTHING ENERGIES YOU CARRY AROUND INSIDE OF YOU. WE ARE NOT THE ENEMY. YOU WANNA SHOOT PEOPLE? THEN SHOOT THE PEOPLE WHO SET BOMBS IN PLACES WHERE WOMEN AND CHILDREN GO SHOPPING IN IRAQ, GO BE MACHO OVER THERE. GO BE THE MAN WITH YOUR GUNS AND TESTOSTERONE OUT OVER THERE. WITH MEN AND WOMEN WHO CHANT “DEATH TO AMERICANS”. GO! BECAUSE YOU DO NOT BELONG HERE IN OUR HAWAI’I!!!!!!!!

If anyone has any information to the shooter, I think it right that you turn him in unless he has one ounce of pride or honor to turn himself in. Shoot someone and then run away, what kind of person is this? Is that even considered human? I don’t even think cowards are human. Rats.

And to the Ching family, we send our deepest aloha and farewell to your fallen beloved Dillon Ching.
