30 08 2007

**CORRECTION**

Hey Homies….Sorry about the confusion, we taped the show last night instead of airing live. Our bad! Mahalo to all who are planning on watching! (We got Andy to sport the MTJ baseball hat. LOL. He looked good in it.)

We will be interviewing with Hawaii’s own, Andy Bumatai, and play live on his new prime time talk show “Nighttime with Andy Bumatai.” The show airs September 5th, next Wednesday at 9:30pm on K5 (Ch. 5).

We’re stoked and honored to be appearing on the show. Please tune in and/or set your DVR’s!!!!

Hey peeps … just wanted to share some cool news that we just found out from the awesome and intelligent V. Brown and talented Dr. Trey …

Vern Brown came up with a great plan to get Mighty J some airplay, so please do this: TEXT Island Mighty J” to 68255. Hopefully the Island 98.5 ohana will be able to get a song or 2 on rotation.

We’re still working really hard on promoting ourselves and tightening up our live show and we want to thank everyone who has supported us and our music. We’re still striving and believing … postivity people … VIBE IT!

Joy Of Sake

24 08 2007

Mu Sake             Okunomatsu

So last night … Rai (the MTJ PA) and I went to the Joy of Sake at the Hawaii Convention Center.  We got there early and we were able to sample most of the food selections offered by various restaurants like Nobu Waikiki which served up pretty darn good miso butterfish, Epic which served Truffled Ahi Poke on Tempura Shiso Leaf (which Rai really liked!), Tokkuri-Tei which served an interesting cold silky tofu soup wth various veges and I think Ikura,  and Abi Langlas-Confectioner whch served a green tea tiramisu +petit fours to name a few.  Now i’m not one that really likes desserts but the green tea tiramisu was yummy.

The sake on the other hand was …. the BOMB!  I drank all of my favorites including Dewasansan, Okunomatsu - Tokubetsu Junmai and Ginjo, The Wandering Poet, and Mu Sake (Junmai Daiginjo).  I tried an interesting Nigori from Momokawa/Sake One the world’s only American’s made sake … not bad … but not in my top 10.  These guys also came out with a Coconut Lemongrass infused sake … sorry but wasn’t willing to try it.  Maybe next time!

Besides the sake I got a free membership to Marukai (ok maybe not that free … I paid $10 then was given (10) $1 Marukai dollars to use in their store), Rai won a sake holder playing the Japanese version of a Las Vegas slot machine, I tried a 24% alcohol sake that was like the Japanese version of “tequila” served with salt to rim the sake glass, and we went home full and happy and just slightly tipsy.

So anyways … if anyone is a sake aficionado you must make it to this event once a year in August!

Whoooo!

19 08 2007

Man, this weekend was craaaaazy, craaaaaaaazy, craaaaaaazy (singing it like Gnarles Barkley ya’all).

We started Saturday morning with an early practice :). We all got to Jenn’s house early to start at about 9. Then we finished up by 11 turtles. We had to be at Pearl Ridge by 1pm. Jenn and I of course came late. We got there 10 minutes before we had to start (2pm). We just want to say thank you boys for always being there on time! We also worked with a new bass player because Kalei aka Mr. Eggs is on the Big Island. So Will(ard) Yokohama filled in and did an amazing job for only one practice, thanks Will!

Kapua, our manager came and watched from the second floor. Janell our booking agent was there handing out waters and making sure we had our posters and banner, and our requirements from the sound man from the mall.

It was a different crowd, but none the less still a very good show. We were very determined to not let anyone leave their seats or where they were standing.

After the show I wanted to try on clothes. I swear I for reals think that the clothing lines are shrinking their sizes. I think that a size 11 is now a size 6. I tried on these cute dresses, but I couldn’t fit my gosh darn boobs in them for the life of me! AHAHAHAH! I can’t wait to have birthed all of my children because when I do, I don’t care what anyone says, I’m getting a boob reduction and a lift. Its painful having boobs! Is that vain? Not for me it ain’t! I heard that these bastard puppies are supposed to get smaller after breast feeding. Well, I breast fed for a year. And no , they did not shrink. They grew and are now racing towards my hips, trynna see who will win first, the left one or the right one! The sports bra I have to wear is just ridiculous. Its also ridiculously expensive. When Mighty J takes off, one of the things on my list is to design a strong and long lasting bra for the endowed. My sports bra has buttons and velcro straps! I should start naming them already I only have three. One name that comes to mind is Helga!

“C’mon Helga, let’s go I have a three hour gig tonight!” I do the boob scoop and blam please stand at attention! Ha’!

Kay, this is becoming more about body parts , sorry folks.

Anyhow, Jenn and I had some lunch, Tiki and Rai had to take care of some phone business, but dude seriously after we were finished with lunch and I went into one store and came out, we had to be at Windward Mall already! So we walked back to the car and took off through H3 and arrived shortly thereafter.

Thanks to Bran, he’s an assistant Manager there at the Borders in Windward Mall and he’s been so kind to assist Mighty J’s exposure in the store there! Mahalo Mahalo. Les Honda, the General Manager of all of the Borders here in Hawai’i, introduced us and we were so stoked to finally see him again! We slammed and shut it down. I gotta say I was a little nervous playing in my own home town. Although there were a lot of familiar faces, we performed like we always do, at our very very best. Again thank you to Precision Sound, Darren, Lenny, Lono, Noho, Ola, A. Vi! You guys is ‘da bestest!

And theeeeen, we had one more gig but it was a She Rocks gig. Right in Mapunapuna. We wanted to send Amz and Bamz off to New York She Rocks Stylee. Amz and Bamz are going to NYU for higher learning; sisters of Nolie, the other half of Milo Shad, also Tiki’s partner of Tiki’s original band. We had a great time playing. But I gotta say I was freaking tired after that! Jenn must have been fully tired because that girl sometimes does not sleep. Simple Souls had a gig on Fri. night, then look at this Saturday we had, Jenn had to work today AND she’s playing tonight. Yikes! And she works tomorrow. Me too, Tiki too, everybody gotta work , ya know what I’m just gonna jet already I ‘m getting tired. See ya’all soon. Whoooooo!
Peace out homies.
M.
