look @ what we all have!

29 09 2007

I am so excited. I am actually gonna be preeeety tired considering the fact that Keahiwai plays in Maui, I have to run to the airport so I can make my flight to Hilo. Mighty J plays in Hilo @ 7, and then Keahiwai. And theeeeen, Mighty J plays at the afterparty. So I am gonna be pretty worn by the end of this day. Taking my vitamins.

Over the course of just one night, o’h and I played at Hukilau last night, totally fun. Just me and my guitar!

But over the course of just one night, small pilikia’s seemed to have popped up here and there and ya k now, I am not even bummed. I am like, I have so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to.

Sometimes we get lost in our troubles, but truly ITS NOT A BIG DEAL if you’re still alive and your famliy hasn’t left this Earth. We get lost in living in a bubble. We think that our own lives are the only lives that matter. That our plans are the only plans that matter and cannot be subject to change. Well, NEWS FLASH. Things are not always going to be in our favor, but we can still make the best of any situation.

Throughout the world, there is famine, disease, infant death, hunger, and a deep sadness. But on the other side, we have an excess of food, health, population, and joy. Should we not continue to have a positive outlook on life because of the other side of the coin? I believe that our positivity is what balances the world, balances the universe in fact. We need to ask ourselves when we get twisted over something, “Is it really worth it? People are dying all over the world, children, men slaying women, women who cannot mother their children” is it really this bad? If it isn’t, then thank God at that very moment that we have not encountered such a tragic situation.

On another note, if it sounds like highschool gossip, feels like highschool gossip, then it is highschool gossip. And haven’t we graduated like almost 10 + years ago? C’mon folks… I’m just chillin like a villain. Mellow mood has got me…

Hilo Fever…

28 09 2007

For those that love to go to the KWXX Ho’olaule’a in Hilo (Big Island) every year for the great live music and ono grinds (oh… “ono grinds” means “delicious food” for all you non-pidgin speaking folk out there, HAHAHAHA…), they know what it’s all about.  Nothing but great vibes.  Most years bring heavy rains, which don’t phase anyone out there.  it’s like an insane all out wet t-shirt contest where everyone’s a winner. lol. wow.

anyway, what people NEED to know, is how AMAZING it is for us musicians… us entertainers, to be able to put on a show and perform for you all.  Why do we always stress the coolness of Hilo’s event?  Because we REALLY feel the love from the audience.  They’re all about movin’ and groovin’ to the music and interacting with us.  The crowd interaction and CONNECTION I experience at gigs like that, really solidify why I love playing music so much.  Friends always ask us, “don’t you get nervous?” or “how can you just sing in front of ALL those people?”  Believe me, when it’s an insane concert that we’re doing, right before we go on, I feel like I’ve got 1,000 butterflies swarming in my stomach and I wanna up chuck yesterday’s dinner all over the place.  But oddly enough, the minute the music starts playing, all of those nerves go away and I’m in another world.  I’m in a good place.  Music is my drug of choice.  It’s weird too.  When there’s an ocean of people out there just staring at me, it’s like a big blur of faces.  I always end up finding at least one person I know in that huge crowd that gives me the sign of approval somehow, and then I get that little kick of adrenaline to run around some more.

The butterflies flutter in my stomach now, as I write this blog, just thinking about how much fun it’ll be.  To all of those reading this that will be there tomorrow…. this show’s for YOU.

peace out,

j.

Hilo Ho'olaule'a

It’s an exciting weekend for us…MighTy J will be in HILO for the KWXX Ho’olaule’a!! Please come see us at the ResortQuest-Kalakaua stage in downtown Hilo. We will be playing at 7:20pm-8:00pm, right after the Opihi Pickers. We are so excited to play in Hilo…and praying for the Rain gods to be nice.. :)
We will also be kicking off the “Official KWXX Afterparty” later Saturday night at Uncle Mikey’s from 11:00pm- 11:45pm. Come party with MighTy J!!!!

If you can’t make it to the Afterparty, we will be performing at Borders in Hilo on Sunday from 2:00-2:30pm. This is a rare performance, since it will be an acoustic version of MighTy J, with just Mailani, Tiki and JROQ. Please join us for a “meet and greet” and CD signing after the gig.

Although we aren’t able to stream live, we will be video taping “behind the scenes” footage of the performance and after party for MighTy J TV. So, for all the fans that couldn’t make it to Hilo, don’t worry..you can catch the action on a MighTy J episode. Yeah! :)
