MighTy on DoctorTrey.com podcast TONITE 8pm PST

23 09 2007

That’s right people!  Where it ALL happened…. where MighTy J got our start… We’re back at home with the DoctorTrey.com podcast!

It’s been a while since I’ve been doing the show because I’ve been busy with so many projects, it’s never-ending!   But, She Rocks, our girl band (Mailani and Lei of Keahiwai, Tiki and Noli of Milo Shade, Zaysha and I of Kanalo), plays at a fundraiser for a child with Leukemia at Pipeline, and the opportunity of appearing on Trey’s live show presented itself.  We just COULDN’T pass it up!

We don’t have anything planned as far as focusing on one thing to talk about on the show, but when is anything REALLY structured on that show anyway??? I mean, isn’t that what makes that show funny and entertaining?  That nobody knows what’s going to happen next?

People reading this blog… if you’re a fan or friend of MighTy J and you’ve never heard of the DoctorTrey.com podcast, tune in tonite @ 8pm Hawaii Time.  You can sign in to the chat room on Trey’s site and call in to talk to us LIVE.  How much cooler can it get??? Otherwise, if u absolutely CAN’T tune in tonite, we’ll post what episode we appear on, so you can check it out when you have the chance.

We’re sooooooo excited!  :)

hope to hear from you!
Peace Out,

j.

boom…boOM…bOOM…BOOM!

9 05 2007

Remember that famous scene in Jurassic Park where you would hear this deep thunder-like boom announcing the arrival of the T-Rex? They wouldn’t actually show you the giant lizard, but would opt instead to focus on a glass of water in which you could see the ripples from the heavy vibrations. It was truly the announcement of something big to come.

Well, consider this website the glass of water, and the ripples have been getting bigger throughout the past year. We’ve now reached a point where we can officially say that the time has come. Mighty J’s project is about to materialize and it’s roar could be louder than the roar of the T-Rex.

I just received notice that the master has shipped from the mastering house to the replication plant today. (for those of you who are interested in the black art of mastering and who we chose and know to be the greatest mastering engineer out there, please visit Bob Katz at Digital Domain.) Fedex tracking number in hand, we now have the official right to get excited. We know you have all waited very long for this release and we thank you for your patience and understanding, but please also understand that Daddy Records, Mighty J’s record label, has told me from the very beginning that they would not like to compromise quality…ever. So, we have created the best project that we possibly could for your listening enjoyment, and it’s in STEREO! That’s new technology for y’all. Provided that everything runs smoothly, meaning that there is no problem with the master, and there is no problem with the graphics, we fully expect to release in the middle of June. Keep an eye on the countdown timer at the top right of the sidebar, and keep in mind that the timer is not automated, it’s actually Mailani, Tiki, and Jenn taking turns typing in the days, hours, minutes and seconds for you. That very timer will let you know when the actually release date is upon us.

It has been a pleasure for me to work with the three ladies of Mighty J and their record company. I truly feel that this album will mark a brilliant new chapter in everyones career. When the album does drop, listeners, please let me know what you all think of it.

So on to other topics…

Do expect a couple more vidcasts to hit this page in the next few weeks. I know we’ve not put any up for awhile, but it’s mostly because it’s been pretty much me in the studio, and frankly who wants to see that? We have one currently in the can, and another that we will shoot to give you information as to what to expect from Mighty J TV.

We are also, working on one last song from the group. This last song will only be available for free download only on the World Wide Web, on this very website. Consider it as a way for us to thank all of you who have joined us on the incredible journey. It is also how you can have somewhat a deluxe version of the project. Downloading the song would make you a part of a very elite group…only folks with an internet connection could be in this group.

Thank you all for your continued support of Mighty J, and as always be sure to check back for updates.

Clock’s a-tickin’

9 05 2007

well, it’s been a while since I’ve written something. There’s sooo much to write about. So much in fact, that it’s all a blur and I can’t really write about just one. Thank U Tiki for updating folks with what we’ve been up to. Trey just hooked us up with a counter today (THANK YOU TREY!) on the top right of the sidebar that tells us when our cd DROPS. Could it REALLY be?? The recording process has ended. Graphics for the cd have been finalized. The release date for our cd is in place. We’re going to be talking about our cd release party. lol. It’s funny, because although Mailani, Tiki and I have played with our own music groups and have released cds with those respective groups, we’ve only collectively had 1 cd release party. Keep in mind that collectively, we’ve released 8 full-length albums (Keahiwai - 5, Kanalo - 2, Milo Shade - 1, JRoQ - 1)… whoops. NINE full-length albums. Well… Kanalo did a Media Release Party for our debut album that flopped, but it wasn’t for the public.

Did I mention that MighTy J has a drink??? YUP! It’s called the “MighTy J Martini” and it REALLY kicks your butt! Can’t wait to see if we can get different bars to try it out. :)

I’m being vague, but it’s because I’m tired and need to get up in a couple hours… I’m sooooooo excited with the team of people we have working with us and can’t wait to share our music with the world!

Watch out world… here we come! :)

System status update for the MighTy J Project …

4 05 2007

Just wanted to drop on in and share with you all the status of the MighTy J Project.  As of today Friday May 4, 2007 our recording and mixing has been completed by the all powerful one Doctor Trey, our music is in the final “mastering” stages, the graphics are almost completed by the talented Preston, and hopefully we will be able to send the completed project to the manufacturers by early next week! Can you believe it? I sure can’t!

If you’ve never recorded a project before you may not be able to fathom the amount of work and follow-up it takes to get it done. Ok here’s a small condensed snippet of part of the process. Lets just take one song … ok … you (the artist) writes a song … you figure out the lyrics and the chords…bring it to the studio… present it to the producer … see if the vibe fits (if not back to the drawing board) … lay down a scratch music track … sing a scratch vocal … (and lucky for us Trey rocks at the next part) … envision/build/create the instrumentation per track … re-sing the lead and add vocal harmonies, ad libs, etc…. the tracks gets mixed (each song has multiple tracks that are recorded and each one has different levels set by the producer)… then you’re on to the next song and continue the process again until all the songs are completely recorded … they all get mixed as a whole, mastered, sent to manufacturing, to the distributors, then to the stores … and thats the process in a nutshell. Theres ALOT of work in between and if you want to see whats included in the recording process … well scroll down below and check out our MighTy J vidcasts.

This has been a bitter sweet week for us as we’ve come to the culmination of our recorded collaboration. Basically, we’ve completed the studio work and its hard to realize that there really is an end to seeing Trey in the studio TO WORK and not to play …but really work was play ..well most of the time … then again … maybe not! LOL! Yes, we’re more than elated to have it completed and now we’re trying our best to prepare ourselves for our live shows and for promoting this awesome project.  This has definitely been a growing process for myself, Mailani and Jenn and we are so excited to share our music with anyone and everyone.  We hope you all enjoy what we have to offer as much as we enjoyed putting this project together…

a hui hou people … MighTy J … is on our way …

Project Nearly Done

6 03 2007

I thought I’d post a little blog about how things have been going with the recording. As many of you have probably realized by now, vidcasts haven’t been coming online as much as usual. We do have a few more in the can and as soon as time permits, you’ll see them here first. Over the past two weeks I’ve been in studio working heavily on the editing and mixing of Mighty J’s project. We’re up against a deadline, and every session counts, so please bear with us as we attempt to create a project that is like nothing you have ever heard before. In the meantime, if you need a Mighty J fix, they will be performing this Friday as I’m sure all blog readers know by now.

Also worth reporting: Jenn is FBI and it would appear as though her favorite stores are Home Depot, City Mill, and Times Supermarket.
